Obama Discovers that the Internet is the Most Trusted Source of Information
Barack Obama is the new US president, as I’m sure anyone who hasn’t been on Mars all of this week is well aware. Already analysts are looking into what his campaign used to bring about the victory and the findings have uncovered some interesting facts on the attitude of people to Online Media and the Internet.
From the outset, Obama’s campaign was revolutionary in its usage of the internet to spread the campaign message. Obama completely over shadowed rival McCain online and used New Media to make clear to voting Americans and the rest of the world, exactly what his positions and philosophy’s were by using blogs, podcasts and viral videos seeded across platforms such as iTunes and You Tube.
But why did the Obama campaign grasp New Media so tightly? Well it could be the fact that in a recent study by IFC (Independent Film Channel) and Zogby International in the United States it was found thatpeople consider the Internet THE most reliable source of information!
In the study, 72.6% believe that the news in papers and on TV is biased and 74.8% agreed that media coverage of presidential elections influences the outcome. So, when asked which form of media they found most reliable the respondents gave the following result:
Internet 37.6%
TV 20.3%
New York Times 19.6%
Radio 16%
Clearly there is much to be learnt from this for the world of business as well.
Republicans didn’t take the Internet seriously for putting their message out there - and lost out. Don’t let your business loose out as well by not making the most of the opportunities for Audio and Video to improve the way your clients, customers or staff perceive your business online.
