Atlantic Rowing Challenge For Cancer Research

Project Description
3000 miles. 2 Guys in a boat. One Goal.
We were approached by social networking site WAYN.com to team up with them to provide coverage of the Atlantic 06 Challenge to be undertaken by Stu Turnbull and Ed Bayliss in December 2006. They rowed unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, a challenge that was to take them nearly 2 months, in aid of Cancer Research.
Our Solution
We created an audio podcats series that would bring the harsh realities of life on the boat to life by keeping in constant touch with the boys on board. In the run-up to the challenge we mixed a full imaging package to be rolled out across the series using stock ocean sound effects, bespoke music composition and jingles/idents. We conducted interviews with the boys prior to setting off and during their preparations to help raise awareness and sponsorship money. During the challenge itself we kept listeners up to date by providing the rowers with a voicemail line to leave messages on. Each day the boys rang a designated number to leave their audio diary. We then put these diary entries into full show complete with imaging and presenter links. The podcast experienced a huge take up, making it onto the front page of the iTunes Music Store and further increasing the money raised for Cancer research.
